Countdown: Iraq And A Hard Place

[VIDEO - 6:06 - YouTube] MSNBC Countdown host Keith Olbermann and Newsweek political analyst Richard Wolffe discuss comments by Hilary Clinton about her vote for the Iraq war, by cross-checking her public statements against factual evidence. To quote Richard Wolffe: "The whole judgement about the war... (is) the crucial presidential test about judgement, about issues of life and death. Has she crossed that bar?" Full Story »

The reporter goes behind Clinton's facile and confident defense of her Iraq war vote, contrasting what she said with the record. Also interesting is his coverage of the immigration issue. See him on Obama and scapegoating and how he sidestepped the wedge. the problem becomes whether facts and reason trump confidence. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/22942793#22942793

Informative analysis that contrasts statements made by Hilary Clinton about her vote for the Iraq war against factual evidence. It appears that Olbermann has made up his mind on this topic, and is not completely fair in his observations, but they are supported by extensive video quotes and research from the public record. Overall, this commentary provides helpful context about an important topic.

The Countdown coverage does well a detailed examination of revisionist claims by Clinton to justify her distressing votes for war in Iraq. Her determined alignment with the neo-con hawk false propaganda regarding the leadup to the war makes a strong statement about her real place on the political spectrum. A little to the left of Gengus Khan.

This opinion piece by a former sportscaster has little to recommend it. There is no journalistic content. The opinions are not expressed any more clearly than the average blog commenter does every day. It would be good if Mr Olberman took a class in American history. He might then recognize the names Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and have learned that they made much bigger changes in their positions on war than has Senator Rodham Clinton.
