Even Grassley's explanation for the original lie and changing course come across as muzzy and confused. Stein documents the phenomenon.

As a head cheese of "The Family" religious theocracy wing nut group, Grassley is free of any ethical constraints because he is one of the chosen. Perhaps this releases him from logical consistency constraints also.
