Why They Hate

What is it about the Tea Parties that sends the left into paroxysms of rage? Lewis is hardly alone with such screeching verb-less statements. The entire left, from the scribes at the New Republic to the talking heads on MSNBC, have been driven mad by a handful of relatively peaceful demonstrators. Full Story »

A carefully crafted opinion piece attacking Acorn–and eventually everything liberal–by the ultra conservative “American Spectator.” Like most right-wing assault articles, this one contains a plethora of the usual conservative hyperbole ridiculing favorite right-wing targets on the Left. Exaggeration builds upon exaggeration until the article ends in an apoplexy of ridiculousness that challenges rational thought. As propaganda–sloppy, very sloppy.

In its fervor to make the case that Teabagging is strictly grassroots, the article ignores acknowledged Teabagger architects and backers: Freedom Works, dontGO, Americans for Prosperity, and good old fair and balanced, Fox “News”.

A rather coherent essay that captures why some pundits on the Left are so bothered by the Tea Partiers. I have read so many anti-Tea Party pieces that the headline "Why They Hate" was actually a bit confusing; my initial assumption was that the author must be referring to hateful Tea Partiers. What this piece roundly ignores is the fact that there is a new Silent Majority of left-leaning folks who have chosen simply to ignore the noisy, distasteful rabble-rousers--talk about standing the 60's decade on its head!

Interesting opinion about the political divide between the progressive left and the Tea Party movement. The author tries to understand why progressives resent Tea Partiers so much, and offers his own interpretation. While his argument seems a bit simplistic, he makes some worthwhile points ("Progressives are driven by class warfare against elites, but they themselves often are the elites.")

Despite its stereotyped view of progressives, this opinion helped me learn more about the Tea Party movement and culture wars in America.

Factually challenged. For starters, he seems to think the New Republic is left.

The left is annoyed because it is not the govrnment which is the problem but the moneyed power that pulls the strings to manipulate the government that is the problem. The years of Republican preaching Government is the problem (while rushing to get into it) has paid off. Why do you think Congress helped enable the financial disaster to happen ? which by the way happened in The Republican's (Bush) watch.

This news analysis provides a good explanation of the often irrational opposition to the tea parties from both left wing opinion makers and politicians. The author has done his homework, and studied past situations where the "progressives" sought to push things onto people who didn't want or need them.
