This opinion piece is short on specific evidence, but nevertheless paints a narrative for current tension in Kenya that is easily understood and seemingly fair. Klopp suggests neither party is innocent in the history of exploiting ethnic/communal tensions for political gain. Klopp's impressive credentials add extra weight to her assessment.

While this is an opinion piece and not particularly balanced in tone, it does reveal some perhaps misleading rhetoric being employed in the media regarding the violence in Kenya. Terms such as "tribal warfare" may be distorting or even minimizing the long term effects of the current Kenyan violence, as well as the violence's historic roots.
