'Clean' diesels set to take on hybrid cars
A diesel-powered vehicle generally gets 20 percent to 30 percent better mileage than a gasoline car with a similar body and engine size. Diesel fuel also costs about 15 percent less than gasoline in Japan.
Industry analyst Mitsuhiro Kunisawa said that taking these two points into account, fuel costs for the owner of a diesel car are roughly 40 percent less than those for the owner of a gasoline car.
