This is a poorly written opinion piece that manages to include all the usual cliches, but misses most of the facts. The author is uninformed about recent history. He whites out the violent conflict in the Republican Party in 1976, more bitter than any the Democrats have had over the last 35 years. And anyone who calls the Republicans the party of "segregationists" is nonsensical and cannot be taken seriously. The rest of the piece is equally distorted by the author's prejudices and lack of knowledge. Truly bad journalism.
