would love to see how this compares to Wired's year-ender. reads a bit like an ad selling investment in Cisco.

The first two out of three are straight out of the transnational telecom corporate playbook. Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt, and pandering to the promise of services that have been coming for decades. The third is on a positive point and forgets to make it. In the US, at least, strangulation of alternatives to phone and cable companies for delivery of internet services have kept profits high for the incumbents and quality of service low (and expensive). The 700MHz auction has been slightly swayed from a pure give-away to the large wireless companies by the actions of small start-ups that have little chance of success still under the current rules.
