The author is not familiar with political history and should not have written this opinion piece without reading up. He names Ronald Reagan but is clueless about him. Ronald Reagan had as many positions just as much out of the Republican mainstream early in his political career as is claimed for Romney. For example he signed legislation enabling expanded abortions as Governor of California. Every candidate changes positions from what he or she said a decade earlier because the facts have changed. Mr Romney is not doing any different that Mr Huckabee is, for example. Bad journalism.
