Afghanistan's president faces a tough reelection

The dilapidated soccer stadium, a onetime Taliban execution ground, rang today with excited shouts of "Karzai! Kar-ZAI!" The chants weren't a signal of support for Afghanistan's beleaguered president. Far from it. the story is an explanation of the problems pres. karzai has in his bid for reelection. while afghanistan's problems are implicit here, not enough is said explicitly about the difficulties any one would have attempting to govern. abdullah is mentioned as chief rival for the post, but not much information or lack of it about his call for change is discussed here.
