Obama's Nevada staff pulled off a brilliant little piece of communications magic to keep the Oprah bounce aloft one more day here. As someone who's almost never been around the communications side of campaigns, it was a fascinating process for me to watch unfold from event to nightly news.

Candid eye-witness account of a recent press event organized by the Obama campaign in Nevada. This citizen report for HuffPo's Off The Bus series is well written and gives a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse on how the campaign and the press interact to get a candidate's message on the air. Citizen journalist and community organizer Zack Exley has a very genuine, personable voice, covers the facts fairly and accurately, shares his personal views very openly, yet with an inspiring willingness to correct these views as needed. The story's interesting angle reveals a lot more about media and politics than we would normally get from a straight news story. This is a good article because it starts out with one set of expectations and ends with another. The change was after seeing the effect of the event that the author writes about.
