It's a sad day when a political cartoonist for a major newspaper like the Washington Post exhibits more common sense, attention to relevant matters, and disdain for political nonsense than its harebrained editors and reporters. Are we supposed to be relieved that Toles' cartoon pointing out the stupidity of the article on Obama did not raise the threat of censorship ? Not this reader. The Post not only continues its penchant for amplifying right wing guttter sludge and mindless propaganda, it's getting worse. It seems that the endless stream of journalistic failures and violations by the Wash Post and the N Y Times in recent decades is deliberately intended to convince their readers that any serious, real news is to be found on internet sites, Kieth Olbermann's TV program, and Comedy Central Channel. If so, they are succeeding; their "bottom line" is reflecting their dysfunction.
