Why We Need Health Care Reform

In the end, health care reform isn’t about politics and fear. It’s about changing a system that often works better for the health-insurance companies than it does for millions of Americans. Full Story »

It is the President and it is in the Opinion section of the NYTimes, put together for what he/Pres. Obama is trying to say/express, it is quality journalism.

I've followed this issue, "health care/HR 676" for years and I'm aghasted at the horror who are the protesters and the noise from FoxNews commentators, i.e. Beck, Limbaugh, etc. It makes me wonder if any of these people have actually read HR 676 and what they're problem with it is - except it isn't "corporate," which I know is the problem for many Republicans and blue dog Democrats. I wouldn't exactly call it quality journalism, but it is a good opinion piece with only the inaccuracy of assuming more benefit for prostate screening than has been proven. Could have been improved with discussion of the public option, better negotiation of pharmaceutical costs, and mention of the benefits of access to primary care physicians and of the Patient-Cemtered Medical Home.

As a physician, I was appalled when my daughter, who had only one hospitalization, at age 3, for asthma, was denied insurance because she was on steroids for months during the winter after 9/11 when the air quality in NYC was abominable. This is ridiculous.

David Brooks of the Times refers to the Presidents health reform claims as 'telling whoppers' all the while Obama accuses his critics of gross mistruths. This is a propaganda piece and not quality journalism

I could ‘unspin’ or put a different spin on virtually every statement the President makes. Most of his article is political spin, which of course counters his absurd claim that this is not about politics. The more blatant ‘whoppers’ would include his claim of savings with preventative care. Preventative medicine will not save money, it will cost more. Additionally his claim that you can keep your insurance if you like it, is only true if your insurance company is still ... More »
