Preachers in the “prosperity gospel” movement are drawing sizable, adoring audiences. Their message — that if you have sufficient faith in God and the Bible and donate generously, God will multiply your offerings a hundredfold — is reassuring to many in hard times. The Copelands and their televangelical ilk, in my humble opinion, are predators. Their prey are folks who can't or won't find out for themselves that Jesus was not about amassing personal wealth. The fact that the Copelands donate merely the obligatory 10% of their gazillions to charity speaks volumes. Let those who have ears to hear, hear.
