Obama, Edwards Strong but Clinton Slips Against GOPers

General election match-ups show the New York Senator would lose against every top Republican

UTICA, New York - A new Zogby Interactive survey shows Democrat Hillary Clinton of New York would lose to every one of the top five Republican presidential contenders, representing a reversal of fortune for the national Democratic front-runner who had led against all prospective GOP opponents earlier this year.

Meanwhile, fellow Democrats Barack Obama of Illinois and John Edwards of North Carolina would defeat or tie every one of the Republicans, ... Full Story »

I have no doubt the figures are accurate, but the margin of error -- 1 percent -- and the "interactive survey" portion worry me. This piece is essentially a Zogby handout, with little journalistic effort to determine whether the system used is a valid one. While I have always had great admiration for Zogby surveys, the fact that this one is so different from others in its results, and it would seem different in its methodology, that I would want a great deal more information.

This national online poll of 9,150 likely U.S. voters suggests that Senator Clinton would lose against leading republican candidates, while Senators Obama and Edwards would win against the same candidates. While this report doesn't offer much context or independent perspectives, it is based on factual evidence and its methodology appears sound. This is significant because it points to an apparent weakening of Senator Clinton's position in terms of attracting voters from the right and center.

Zobgy Polls are just that... polls. But they are polls with amazing track records and are cited by countless media. The polls are thorough and nuanced. It would be interesting to see the actual poll questions that led to these numbers, but the numbers themselves should be very important to Democrats in weighing their nomination.

Very basic analysis, all expected data presented. Sample size is much larger than usual. Doesn't give exact questions asked, or how "likely voters" are selected.

Interesting numbers, supporting the general feel (from my perception) out there that Sen. Clinton is too controversial for both sides in many of her political issues. President Obama and Vice President Edwards looks more like the safe ticket every day. (And would personally delight me considering all I've heard spoken from Mr. Obama. He appears a uniter to me.) I'm also both confused and irritated by the continuous high rankings of Mr. Giuliani. (You thought Bush was bad. This is Bush with brains.)

This is a typical Zogby poll; accurate, solid, facts. It also continues to prove what many wise political watchers have been saying for a while now - that an Obama/Edwards ticket appears to be the most likely way to win back the White House, and get the country TRULY working together. Hillary may be qualified for the office - but these polls appear to reflect she is NOT the right person for the job, at this time.
