The Pakistan Mess

By imposing martial law, Gen. Pervez Musharraf has pushed nuclear-armed Pakistan further along a perilous course and underscored the failure of President Bush's policy toward a key ally in the war on terrorism. For an editorial this piece is excellent at painting a broad picture of the problem of US support of Musharraf. However, it's easy to attack US support for Musharraf. This editorial fails to adequately acknowledge the hurdles to democratic rule in Pakistan.
