The gradual decline of paid print journalism circulation should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following the news for the past several years. True, the no-cost availability of many newspapers on the Interent has had an impact. But a more far reaching and profound reason is that readers (and following them, the advertisers) can see plainly, upon consulting the growing number of websites that give us so much more authentic and revealing news, that our corporate print media have been SELECTIVE in reporting news, publishing unsubstantiated accounts, false facts, and even untrue rumors as though these were (are) the news "that's fit to ptint" or often ignore real news items entirely. Unfortunately, the most (formerly) respected newspapers like the NYT and the Wash Post appear to be the most frequently guilty of these journalistic violations. The NYT, in fact, on being found out publishing blatant lies as news has FAILED repeatedly to print retractions. While our American newspapers are finally beginning to publish articles and editorials exposing the crimes of the Bush administration, they neverthless seems to be well along the path to Rupert Murdoch trash publications. Internet websites are gradually becoming the source of news in the USA for people who care about honesty and quality in our media. The fight to prevent corporate publishing houses, Hollywood media, lobbyists, and the likes of Murdoch from taking over those media sources which adhere to high journalistic standards will be crucial for the future of American intellectual life.
