First FAS-FAX Numbers: Many Top Papers Take Big Hits

NEW YORK The Audit Bureau of Circulations released circulation numbers for more than 700 daily newspapers this morning for the six-month period ending September 2007. Of the top 25 papers in daily circulation (see chart, separate story), only four showed gains. Full Story »

The gradual decline of paid print journalism circulation should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following the news for the past several years. True, the no-cost availability of many newspapers on the Interent has had an impact. But a more far reaching and profound reason is that readers (and following them, the advertisers) can see plainly, upon consulting the growing number of websites that give us so much more authentic and revealing news, that our corporate print media have been SELECTIVE in reporting news, publishing unsubstantiated accounts, false facts, and even untrue rumors as though these were (are) the news "that's fit to ptint" or often ignore real news items entirely.
