There used to be a time when the Republicans were known for their fiscal conservatism. An excellent, detailed look at the Republican critique of the proposed Tax Reduction and Reform Act submitted recently by Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel -- a Democrat. As the author writes, "Although clearly wanting to make the tax system more progressive, Rangel included items espoused by Republicans, such as elimination of the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) and a cut in the overall corporate tax rate,." Nonetheless, the partisan political 'jockeying' began almost immediately. No surprise there....
