'Evil and Orwellian' – America's right turns its fire on NHS

The National Health Service has become the butt of increasingly outlandish political attacks in the US as Republicans and conservative campaigners rail against Britain's "socialist" system as part of a tussle to defeat Barack Obama's proposals for broader government involvement in healthcare. defends a system rated much better than the US system but vilified by opponents of improving the US system

Every system the opponents vilify seems too work much better than our own,

I find this utterly appalling – if there are so many good reasons why universal health care is a bad idea, then why do the Republicans resort to lies? More »

"The British embassy in Washington is quietly trying to counter inaccuracies. A spokesman said: "We're keeping a close eye on things and where there's a factually wrong statement, we will take the opportunity to correct people in private. That said, we don't want to get involved in a domestic debate." In a way I wish they would speak up loudly to defend their system. I wonder if this was something BushCo was pushing (like Iraq) if the US gov would be pushing them for comment.

The story looks at the current Healthcare craze/scare from the perspective of UK, whose healthcare system serves mostly as a negative example in ads and information campaigns. However, the article does not truly examine whether the UK's claims of misinformation about its NHS are correct or not, but rather.

Well, even though UK's claims of misinformation are not further examined for correctness, I believe they are likely to be true and that interest goups in the US are running misinformation campaigns based on fear. And a sad anekdote from my personal life... years ago I ws working in a small satellite office of a dental company. One day a woman walks in and asks whether we were selling crown cement (we didn't). Her crown fell out, and she neither had dental insurance nor the money ... More »

It's fair to deny American right wing but not enough for revealing the facts of British NHS problems.

Denying the right wing propaganda is fair but British NHS quality of treatment is not as good as US which is true as well. US has 47million unisured people is exist which is never be acceptable but once everyone has insured some part of advanced medical practice must be compromised which is inevitable Best part of British system is everyone can access medicare but huge waiting list inefficient bureaucracy lack of choice & restriction of treatments bugdet capping etc.which must endure.

It's the bloody Guardian! They've been reporting serious stuff for a very long time. It's often sneared at by comedians but it's standard reading for MPs and the usual suspects. I saw Edwina Currie reading a copy on the top deck of the number 24 once (not a known 'knit your own yoghurt' type).

Why are these loonies picking on the NHS? What about the French health care system, the Italian or the German? All excellent by the way. Which rocks have they come out of?
