An upbeat article which summarizes very well the current position of the Republican Party, although position is pushing it. In serving their tiny nutcake base, Senate Republicans ignored the increasing number of Latino voters. An oversight for which they'll pay dearly in 2010. The Republican Party will rise again; but not this Republican Party; and not with these myopic leaders.

Shrum provides an upbeat prognosis on the effects of the republicans' own version of nihilism, as they oppose government, rational policy, and science in the pursuit of political power.

Shrum perhaps underestimates the recovery power of a party that has huge resources of money and an ownership control over mainstream media. Propaganda and disinformation are powerful weapons against an informed democracy.

Amusingly written. But it reminds me of Karl Rove's plans for a permanent Republican majority. And, as Shrum himself points out, history does repeat itself.
