Lies and distortions about Al Gore remain an easy political commodity to sell, as we have seen in the renewed assault on Gore in the wake of his winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

Parry perhaps errors in word choice in ascribing the ethical lapse to "mainstream" media. The corporate big money media has not been mainstream for a long time. The corporate media has consistently aligned with neocon right wing propaganda and smear campaigns. They do not represent the mainstream of America, they are very much representing and echoing the right wing prejudices of the rich right and white privileged classes that have acceded to ownership of an oligopoly of news broadcasters. This story describes a typical smear that results from this situation. Burton is a minor right wing hack judge in Britain. The right wing press in elevating and quoting a fool.

Was there no other source on Tuvalu than a travel writer? Travel writers can be super accurate, but using one as the sole source on a matter of science and government policy weakens the analysis and make Parry look lazy. This is a tremendously important topic--I wish more were covering it. And maybe looking into the Dean Scream, too.

this is neither news nor journalism. it is simply propaganda. the inclination of most media organizations is, at best, a "point-counterpoint" display intended to entertain. it will not be possible, perhaps for years, to obtain a clear and reasonably honest assessment of al gore.
