The Way Primaries Work

We seem to have people who still misunderstand the primary system, both in our CapQ community and in the national political movements on the Right. Over the last couple of weeks, we have had grand ultimatums from a couple of factions which have demanded a particular type of nominee, or else the faction leaders claim they will depart the Republican Party. A typically incoherent diatribe from this deeply ideological rightist blog. The view argued, namely that registered Republican voters should stick with the leading candidate is not backed up with any argument. It's not clear at all why voters should not support the candidate they most want to see as president especially if that means not voting for those they disagree with deeply. The writer seems desperately grasping at straws in the hope that the White House will not fall into Democratic hands. And the cartoon promoting torture is incredibly repellent both in its blind vengeance and its delusion that torture tends to work against religious extremists.
