Are "national interest electric corridors" for us or for the industry?

Clayton's is the first national paper to provide coverage other than the AP account. He cites both the government's position and that of opponents and the possible results of the order. He fails to mention that the National Trust for Historic Presenrvation named historic places in transmission corridors as one of the 11 most endangered historic sites for 2007. Plenty of links, sources, and evidence. I would like to see deeper digging into the context. What is the area's projected power demand growth rate, and will the system handle it without these corridors?

This piece presents legislative information regarding the CS Monitor article about a Dept of Energy proposed energy corridor. She links to past efforts by energy companies to effect Federal policy. I needed to read the CS Monitor article to fully understand this piece. Neither this piece nor the CS Monitor piece give direct evidence that the Dept of Energy proposal is primarily beneficial to the Ohio Valley coal power companies. More research is needed.
