Ethanol could leave the world hungry

The growing myth that corn is a cure-all for our energy woes is leading us toward a potentially dangerous global fight for food. While crop-based ethanol -the latest craze in alternative energy - promises a guilt-free way to keep our gas tanks full, the reality is that overuse of our agricultural resources could have consequences even more drastic than, say, being deprived of our SUVs. Excellent article indeed, coming from the president of the Earth Policy Institute. It clearly shows in a logical way the merge of food and energy industries and the consequences on world hunger. Most important, the author suggests sustainable energy alternatives, like wind farms to power electric cars on short distances and the raising of auto fuel-efficiency standards, in order to avoid a big problem with the world's food needs in the near future.
