User-news sites offer diverse stories, some questionable sources

During a week this summer when the mainstream press focused on the immigration debate in Congress and a failed terrorism plot in the United Kingdom, the most popular stories on news sites where the users rank their favorites, like San Francisco's Digg, was - aside from chatter about Apple's new iPhone - not dominated by any one news story.

Informative report based on a recent study by Journalism.org's Project for Excellence in Journalism. But it would have been helpful to hear independent perspectives from sources not associated with the study.

This article is fairly successful at reporting on the Journalism.org study result. It could have interviewed a traditional editor to get another perspective on news consumption.

Makes one who frequents NewsTrust.net appreciate its focus on quality journalism, rather than the popularity contest approach taken by some news aggregators. Bodes well for NewsTrust I think. [Note: Be sure to read the comments and check out the one by tzar.]

this is easier to read than the original from which it comes (which is also in stories to be reviewed). there is an on-going question hinted at, with quotes from both sides of an answer, as to whether or not the two types of sources will co-exist or the new will edge out the old. and its corollary in my mind, how much difference would either answer make?
