In this opinion piece, Pearlstein loses his cool over the baloney being thrown around by opponents of health care reform. But in the midst of that he clearly explains the insurance exchange and some of the financing numbers.

Every time a politician rails against socialized medicine, I wish they could waive Medicare benefits for themselves and their families. Every time a politician says that health care will be rationed, I wish he (they're almost all male) would be forced to spend a day on the units explaining the Medicare Three Midnight Rule to irate families of hospital patients.

This is a well written and interesting article. Are the Republicans lying or are they not able to understand? Maybe they listen only to right wing news providers. Whatever their problem is they continue to think they are of value. That is a concern.

Living in Berkeley for 41 years, I still dread the effect of these scurrilous attacks on the prospects for universal health care in the conservatively-enthralled parts of this country. I am encouraged by a recent Gallup poll showing my home State, Indiana, is now 10 points in the blue. NPR's Weekend Edition also carried this story today.
