Olbermann: Bush Is Just Trying to Play Us with 'Troop Withdrawal' in Iraq

The following is MSNBC Countdown host Keith Olbermann's special comment addressed to President Bush.

Bush says his new goal is to have the presidential candidates "comfortable about sustaining a presence" in Iraq, contradicting every rationale for his Iraq policy he's offered. Full Story »

Since the story is basically a transcript of Keith Olbermann's 'special comment' segment on his show "Countdown", the accuracy of the *article* is almost 100% because it reports almost exactly the original words (modulus a few spelling errors). It's worth noting that this same content is also posted on Olbermann's own part of the MSNBC website, in the "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" pages, as are many (possibly all) of Olbermann's "Special comments"

The hyperbole to information ratio here is enormous. Not only did I learn almost nothing, the analysis is not convincing.

Out of a corporate press that has tended to echo the folly of the neocons and the war drums, Olbermann' biting commentary provides a healthy breath of dissent in the big media arena.

Keith is fearless... polemical, but fearless. As an editorial comment, it doesn't claim to be a balanced piece. And it isn't. It's a body slam. The other side has its echo chamber of talking heads. At least we have one voice brave enough to speak for the rest of us.

As usual, Keith Olbermann's personal comments about Bush's war hit the mark and are as acerbic as ever. When Olbermann first began his program, it was predicted he would soon be pulled from the air. It’s happened before. Whoopie Goldberg was just quoted saying that after her pre-2004 election criticism of Bush, work suddenly dried up.

Why was this suggested for review? It is devoid of content. I checked and Mr Olberman is a sportscaster. He displays no knowledge of history, current events, foreign affairs, ... , in this piece which is a rant about President Bush. These are a dime a thousand on far right and far left blogs, so why did anyone want to single this out?

Keith Olbermann is virtually the ONLY regularly scheduled commentator (setting aside occasional remarks by Brian Williams in NBC and Charles Gibson on ABC) who is worth his salt as a journalistic pundit. The rest of the TV punditocracy is a total disaster. This piece is only the latest in the series that Olbermann has committed to, in giving the moron in the oval office, on those infrequent occasions when he is not on vacation or reading a Karl Rove script to a captive military audience, a much deserved SCOLDING. It is a rare (nowadays) example of hard facts, hard hitting opinion, and "Truth Telling" (something unknown to the Cheney/Bush mob) that desperately needs to be aired. Yeah, I know - - it won't do any good with this ... More »

Labeled as special comment and thus a personal opinion. Which is fine as long as it is so labeled. This newsman does far better than most in understanding the historical background and in dredging up what was actually said and done in the past that has led us to the current situation. He is fearless in his willingness to challenge the propaganda the current administration spews all across much of the rest of the media. I wish that there were more like him.

This is not a 'news' story. Olbermann is a boob who salivates whenever he sees a picture of Bush. If the purpose of the site is to generate a list of trustworthy news stories, then this story fails. Opinion should not be mixed with news. It generates confusion. Instead of listing under 'Top Stories,' show them in 'Top Opinion.' Maybe even 'Top Opinion from the Left/Right.' Give the reader a break.
