This report includes a clip of a TV anchor (Kyra Phillips) who vapidly repeats a Republican talking point about General Petraeus' upcoming dog & pony show, then is reminded by an on-air reporter that the (assumed to be) contradictory GAO report is independent. It's just a reminder of how hard TV reporters have to act to pretend to be so dumb. Another reason not to watch TV.

Not to get too excited. Kyra's dutifully expressed wish is the usual result of the mindless CNN news reader (Katie on CBS, another naive example) who ventures to offer a nonscripted comment that reveals a dull wit and a pitiful attempt to indicate that there's something other than a wet sponge between her/his ears. Unfortunately, it always creates the opposite impression. George W. Bush is our champion dull wit - - who when he wanders off script demonstrates that he is truly the paramount practitioner of the extemporaneous, screwed up remark.
