Hizbollah buys frontier land to attack Israel

Hizbollah is buying up large tracts of land owned by Christians and other non-Shias in southern Lebanon as the militant group rebuilds its defences in preparation for a new war with Israel, The Sunday Telegraph has been told.

When I showed this to a friend in the counterterrorism business the reaction was immediate: "I didn't know. All the better." This is an important strand of information. By creating a war base Hezbollah -- or Hizbollah depending on your dictionary -- has made a major strategic mistake for an insurgent group. They now have territory to defend, bunkers that can be reached and breached. They have transitioned to a conventional military force, fighting on the same level with the Israelis. As good as Hezbollah is in insurgent tactics, and they are excellent, they cannot hold a candle to the Israelis in conventional warfare.
