The connection between drug smugglers and terrorists has long been feared, and the story appears to be based on a years-old report. If the cells do exist, as outlined in the "confidential report" which appears to have been leaked for someone's benefit, Americans have a real problem. To my memory there have been no known arrests of antone identified as terrorist suspects where a connection to drug dealers has been hinted at, much less highlighted. The reporter had an obligation to question why, if the cells are known, no one had been arrested or -- conversely -- ask whether the report was based on informed speculation by the law enforcement and intelligence communities. Some weak sourcing, especially for some of the more serious claims about Arabs crossing the southern border regularly. No critical perspective presented.
