(Blog Post) By rejecting any deal with President Obama over health reform, conservatives and Republicans have set the stage for their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s. David From, former GWB speechwriter, knows that conservatives who think health reform will ruin the Obama presidency are deluded. Full Story »

A circumspect and realistic assessment. Frum exposes, with editorial dismay, how radical talk has deeply wounded the conservative movement.

Frum's main point is that Republican politics have been debased by radical voices, and in pursuit of that point, he exposes the dishonesty and bias inherent in talking-head punditry. Pundits thrive when their ideological base is on the ropes; they WANT to support the losing team, because losing generates anger, which generates ratings for pundits.

This opinion piece reflects quality writing and offers a frank, in-your-face assessment of the issues that face rank-and-file conservative Republicans in the wake of passage of the health care bill. The author pulls no punches as he asserts that Republicans have no one to blame but themselves (and the lunatic fringe) for this defeat.

I could not possibly have said this any better. The question, though, is if any of the folks who should read -- and accept -- this upbraiding will do so.

Insightful opinion piece from former GOP speechwriter David Frum on the impact of the health care vote on the conservatives movement. The author makes a well-reasoned argument that Republicans made a mistake by supporting overheated talk and refusing to work with Democrats and the Obama administration.

Finally, a voice of reason on the conservative camp. A welcome change in the midst of 'hysterical accusations and pseudo-information' from talk show hosts and party leaders.

this opinion from a conservative thinker/analyst offers insights into the future of both the reform bill and the republican party. he points out that the bill is very close to a bill which might have been done by republicans themselves, and that their all or nothing game may well be lost.

a saying from childhood may apply in the situation described here: you shouldn't cut off your nose to spite your face.

This is a very interesting opinion piece because it really opens the mind of the Republican position and conflict around Health Care Reform. The story appropriately uses historical context to explain the current Republican strategy. However, the story goes beyond the basic facts and beautifully dives into how the mindset of the people and the media influenced Republican leaders
