Citizens of the great state of Texas, where I now live, are very proud of their state. Proud enough, in fact, that they've got their very own state pledge of allegiance. Not bad in it's presentation, this opinion does not bring new information to the table. It re-hashes familiar arguments about separation of Church and State. It fails to explain the process by which the phrase was added to the Texas pledge, or report on opposition groups.

Just another brick in the wall - or actually removed from the wall in this case? I'm imagining a new Supreme Court in Washington just waiting for a dustup over this. The blogger argues his opposition with genuine passion, and I believe that this is driven from a love of country - not a dislike of religion. This is blogging at its best - and truly amazing journalism, as well, in my opinion.

A state pledge? Isn't that a bit big-hat? If religion in texas gave us the murderous bush, pull the dam foolishness out of the pledge before we all die.

Excellent article, sure to displease some. This is another sign of a world caught in the throes of evangelism—narrow-minded, intolerant, myopic beliefs in the exclusivity of an unforgiving unique God and suffering no other beliefs before them—affects religionists, Christians, and Muslims alike.

Separation of Church and State is very important to me and this story hits a nerve that spurs me to comment that this article is essential reading by everyone who believes that the Constitution is worth protecting from the infringement, by religious extremists, of the protected human rights concerning matters of conscience expressed in it.
