Science and the Islamic world--The quest for rapprochement

Internal causes led to the decline of Islam's scientific greatness long before the era of mercantile imperialism. To contribute once again, Muslims must be introspective and ask what went wrong.

he question I want to pose--perhaps as much to myself as to anyone else--is this: With well over a billion Muslims and extensive material resources, why is the Islamic world disengaged from science and the process of creating new knowledge? this is an important and fascinating piece. important because the elements regarding fundamentalism in Islam and science and cultural and educational attitudes toward the scientific method which he discusses may clearly be projected to our modern society. A scientist himself, the author points out historical yet focuses on present-day factors including the impact of Western intervention, to understand the dearth of scientific achievements in Muslim countries.
