This is a good story that cites many sources. It's principal weakness is that most of the sources participated in preparing the report; however, they tend to be health professionals of stature. Comments in support of blocking the report are either unsupported assertions of incompetence or bland statements from an administration spokesperson.

The Bush administration leads the way to new heights of hubris as proof that Republican politics is all about trumping the facts for the benefit of the ideologue in power. This is the stacking of the cards so as to hide essential information needed by the people. And, this is done for the aggrandizement of the president. It is shameful when one puts the pursuit of power ahead of the needs of the governed, especially when that rush to power tramples the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the health needs of the people who are the voters of America.

When the Cheney-Bush debacle finally collapses of its own weight, when all is revealed America will be shocked at the extent of the absolute degradation of what Cheney-Bush have done to democracy and the constitution. It isn't over until it's over.

I do not remember another U.S. administration where all government functions were this politicized. This is just another demonstration of that. Another instance where fact and reality are supposed to be twisted in the service of ideology. Another time when political connections and credentials trumped expertise or dedication to the country. I only wonder how long it will take our country to undo the damage this administration has done.

What was particularly frightening about this story is that it included people in my backyard--a former Wisconsin congressman (Steiger's father) and our ex-governor--and presidential candidate--Tommy Thompson.

Is there anything in the Constitution, in the Bill of Rights, anything in National or International law that Cheney and Bush HAVE NOT stomped on??

So, was the report on science, where politics should not intrude? Or was it on policy, which is certainly a matter of politics. If policy, then one would expect and demand that a politically appointed aid would block any report that recommended policy that was opposed to administration policy. Certainly poor people have been hurt by past attempts to "help" by subsidizing certain classes of health care. Subsidizing health care increases prices. Higher prices hurt poor people.
