John Paul Stevens, who will celebrate his ninetieth birthday on April 20th, generally bides his time. Stevens is the Court’s senior Justice, in every respect. Has it all. The story of Steven's life, the evolution of his politics, and the perspectives of people who have worked for him. Most importantly, it tells the story of how SCOTUS as changed since he joined the court in the mid seventies.

Does any publication in the world deal as exhaustively with a subject as The New Yorker? If so, I am not aware of it. This excellent piece allows anyone with sufficient stamina to gain real knowledge of Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, both as a justice and as a man. Simply great journalism!
