The New York Amsterdam News is a weekly newspaper geared for the African-American community of New York City. It was founded on December 4, 1909 by James Henry Anderson in Harlem, New York. At its height in the 1940s it had a circulation of 100,000 and was one of the four largest African-American newspapers in the United States. It has published columns by such notables as W. E. B.
