But with Washington as it is, the President could hope for no more than to restore some sanity by calling out the opposition for its “scare tactics,” indicting insurance companies for greed and evoking the “large-heartedness” of Ted Kennedy’s efforts for universal coverage as “not a Republican or a Democratic feeling” but “part of the American character.”
NewsTrust Rating: 3.4 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

The bride still loves the groom — but she’s now beginning to seriously question his judgment and ability to be a good provider. Even so, Republicans shouldn’t be smiling: polling suggests the party is at an all time low and one analyst wonders if the stage isn’t being set for another third party anti-deficit candidate in the style of Texas’ Ross Perot.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.7 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

The Moderate Voice - By Jerry Remmers - May. 25 (Opinion) - Four highly visible Republicans appeared on the political talk shows Sunday talking about the split threatening the party between moderates and conservatives.

What I heard were two divergent themes: Rebuilding the party to win elections vs. purging the ranks to retain only the concepts endorsed by conservatives.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.5 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Why The Stimulus Plan Isn't

The Moderate Voice - By Mikkel Fishman - Jan. 26 (Comment) - I have such conflicting thoughts on the stimulus plan I have no idea how to characterize them. The Republicans are so right, and completely wrong. The Democrats are feckless as usual. President Obama comes out by far the best, but is being disingenuous in his marketing and is thus open to very valid criticisms. I really hope he changes his pitch or otherwise a very good program may be derailed (or at least judged a failure) because it doesn’t meet its aims.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.7 average - 5 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

The Moderate Voice - By Pete Abel - Dec. 02 (Opinion) - Current newspaper employees will hate this suggestion because it could immediately result in deeper layoffs than they’ve witnessed, to date. But I’ve been involved in enough business contractions to know that — when the trends are obvious and irreversible — it’s rarely a good idea to dither, cutting headcount a few people at a time. Nothing kills morale more than a series of limited but constantly repeated cuts. It’s almost always better to get ahead of the curve, cut deeply and swiftly one time, and give those who remain the chance to mourn but simultaneously understand that their ship is now more stable and sustainable.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.6 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer
