The Republicans are so right, and completely wrong. The Democrats are feckless as usual. President Obama comes out by far the best, but is being disingenuous in his marketing and is thus open to very valid criticisms. I really hope he changes his pitch or otherwise a very good program may be derailed (or at least judged a failure) because it doesn’t meet its aims.

The Moderate Voice - By Joe Gandelman - Jul. 27 (Opinion) - Republican Senator John McCain's presidential campaign opened both political barrels on rival Democratic Senator Barack Obama with a short but blistering TV campaign ad that charges that Obama chose to go to the gym rather than visit wounded troops because the Pentagon wouldn't allow cameras to go with him. It's an ad (watch ad yourself at the bottom of this post) that is being received predictably by both sides. Democrats are outraged, Republicans defend it. But the fact that it's coming before the two party political conventions have been held as part of an increasingly ugly battle between McCain and Obama underscores a reality:

The Moderate Voice - May. 25 (Opinion) - On this Memorial Day weekend, absent from the President's speech was concrete, meaningful support-as there should be-for those who are still fighting the wars that were launched under his command. I am referring to the new GI Bill of Rights that is presently being debated on Capitol Hill. I am referring to an improved version of the GI Bill that would provide our Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans with education benefits at least equal to those of our World War II and Vietnam War veterans. I am referring to the more fair GI Bill sponsored by U.S. Senators Daniel Inouye, John Warner; supported by Sen. James Webb-the bill's principal backer-and by many other Republicans and Democrats; and the bill that passed earlier this week on a 75-22 vote. I am referring to the more generous GI Bill overwhelmingly passed by the House earlier.

Voters are just waiting for him as an alternative to Mitt, Rudy, John and others (except Ron Paul whose supporters want a different kind of Republican). The early conventional wisdom was that once he jumps in Thompson, with superb communications skills, ability to get to the nuts-and-bolts of an argument, early supporters who included many prominent Republican bigwigs (conservative columnists, bloggers, a portion of the Bush camp plus his respected mentor former Tennessee Senator Howard Baker) would suck up the political oxygen, wow the media and quickly be a major contender.
