The Indianapolis Star is a daily newspaper which began publishing on June 6, 1903. It began as a morning daily paper in competition with two other Indianapolis dailies, the Indianapolis Journal and the Indianapolis Sentinel, which it eventually took over. In 1948, The Star owner Eugene C. Pulliam purchased rival evening paper the Indianapolis News. In 1999, The News ceased publication, leaving The Star as the only major daily paper in Indianapolis.
