Hartford Courant - Dec. 27 (Editorial) - This state does well in schooling better-off suburban children. But it fails low-income children, who are mostly concentrated in city schools. Poor students in the fourth and eighth grades in Connecticut score three grade levels below their more comfortable peers — the worst achievement gap in the nation — even though this state is among the highest per-pupil spenders in the nation.

Student's Free Speech Case May Lead To Legislation

Kravitz offered something of a plea to higher courts: Revisit the boundaries of free speech for students. Kravitz was siding with Burlington school administrators accused of violating the First Amendment rights of a student they disciplined for a blog post she wrote off school grounds. And he offered an argument for why, in the Internet age, the old boundaries of what schools can regulate might not apply. "Off-campus speech can become on-campus speech with the click of a mouse," he wrote.

Those dizzying contradictions on the easy questions must have left Dodd cowering as he contemplated explaining documents that would show he knew what Countrywide was doing for him — each answer putting the lie to his past protestations. That Countrywide employed lobbyists to influence Dodd and his colleagues while the lender lavished benefits on the senator may ensnare him in an ominous encounter with the Senate's ethics committee. It would be harder for that body to whitewash a violation if the insidious mortgage details are known to a suspicious public.

"Halliburton is opening its corporate headquarters in Dubai while maintaining a corporate office in Houston," spokeswoman Cathy Mann said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "The chairman, president and CEO will office from and be based in Dubai to run the company from the UAE." Lesar, speaking at an energy conference in nearby Bahrain, said he will relocate to Dubai from Texas to oversee Halliburton's intensified focus on business in the Mideast and energy-hungry Asia, home to some of the world's most important oil and gas markets.

Jodi Rell earlier this month. He was held in jail for 12 hours on $75,000 bail. I would like to point out that I, too, was doing absolutely nothing on that day and have received none of the abuse and subsequent attention lavished on Krayeske.

The program was part of a national experiment funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that gave bright black and Latino college students extra help to pass the dental school admission test and go on to graduate. Research has shown that minority dentists are more likely to devote at least part of their careers to treating people in underserved communities.
