At least this morning's offering isn't from the usual sources, but honestly, it is unseemly for a former federal prosecutor to be arguing commutation of sentence by a jury of Libby's peers for undercutting the heart of a criminal investigation into a betrayal of national security secrets. But then again, perhaps that is just my commitment to the Rule of Law and not to the Bush administration's rule of loyalty talking.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.0 average - 4 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

What is now public is that the FBI had learned that Russert did not and could not have told Libby the information regarding Mrs. Wilson. As prosecutors, we could not walk away from the fact that Libby was lying to federal investigators and the grand jury. Seems to me that no responsible prosecutor could walk away from that -- the facts justify themselves.
NewsTrust Rating: 4.3 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Nobody really expected anything early this morning, so everyone is scrambling into the media room to try and figure out what's going on. Both teams are in the courtroom, and Fitzgerald, Wells, Jeffress and the judge are back with the jurors. Lots of finger drumming, toe tapping and leg swinging on the part of those left waiting. I'm sure the message from the judge to come back to court this morning was like a tazer jolt to everyone's already jangled nerves this morning.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.5 average - 4 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Last night, the major networks/cable channels covered this as a lead story, and PBS' News Hour devoted a large segment to it.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.9 average - 4 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Libby Trial Jury Selection: Day One Recap of Libby's Dilemma

Firedoglake - By Pachacutec - Jan. 17 (Opinion) - Therein lies the challenge for Team Libby: of the nine jurors reviewed in depth today, three were excused. Two I've described to you, and one was excused due to the demands on her time of her work commitments as a free lance contractor paying the rent month to month. What's telling is this: no jurors were excused for cause based on any predispositions that might prejudice them against the prosecution. Just the defense.

Libby has a war problem, and though this case is narrowly about felony charges of obstruction of justice and perjury, wherein the case for war in Iraq provides only the setting, the unavoidable drama and context of this case is the case made for war in Iraq and the credibility of this administration, and in particular, the Office of the Vice President.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.8 average - 3 Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer
