Despite profiting by hundreds of millions of dollars from the deal, Romney's company led Dade to bankruptcy, laying off thousands of workers throughout the country—including 850 in Miami alone.

Daily Kos - By Gaius - Oct. 27 (Opinion) - The impetus behind the Occupy Wall Street movement - a vague sense that the rich are getting ever richer while everyone else suffers - was confirmed by a recent report from the Social Security Administration showing that while total employment and average wages remained stagnant, the number of people earning $1 million or more grew by 18% from 2009 to 2010. Those figures give real substance to the "We are the 99%" slogan, yet Republicans continue to insist, despite all evidence to the contrary, that if anything those "job creators" deserve an even greater share of our national income. The Tea Party, meanwhile, has launched its own "53%" movement, inexplicably rallying the working class to the defense of the wealthy. The one group rarely heard from in this rancorous debate is the 1%, whose incomes and taxes are its focus. I am one of them, and here is my perspective, which may surprise you.

Shot by the boy's mother with the clear intention of indicting the process, the video shows the pair going from station to station at the DMV, asking all of the right questions as to why there are so many hurdles to acquiring this constitutionally guaranteed ID card.

Factcheck got it really wrong about Social Security

I don't know what Factcheck.org's excuse is, but they posted a piece today that's extremely, undeniably false and misleading with respect to Social Security. They apparently failed to know or learn that there are 3 milestones with respect to the funding of Social Security

Daily Kos - Dec. 21 (Opinion) - For almost forty years, my father was the city administrator for a small town in Kentucky. And in every one of those years, decisions had to be made over one of the city's most expensive activities -- repaving streets. Depending on the weather, the level of traffic, and the structure of the underlying roadbed, some streets started to crumble in as few as five or six years. Others could make it two or three decades with only a little patching to see them through between major resurfacing projects. Even in a small town, the twists and turns of cross streets and subdivisions add up to hundreds of miles of road, and in any given year maybe somewhere between 2 and 10 percent of those streets need a new surface. It's enough to stress the budget of any town, and if you've ever lived in a community where the budget is getting tight, you've probably experienced how a decade of neglect can turn the roads into rubble.

The restrictions that were placed on banks, S&Ls, and other institutions in the 1930s weren't put there because someone thought it would be fun. They were put in place because they addressed problems that had just been clearly and painfully revealed. They were put in place because they were necessary.

Daily Kos - By Catspaw - May. 28 (Entertainment) - Presidential hopeful John McCain had been pretty secretive about his medical records, no wonder, his cancer has returned in a really horrible form: (doctored photo showing a small Bush head sticking out of McCain's cheek) The tumor now talks, though unintelligibly, about not playing golf instead of letting men and women in uniform get time off from the war at home; it whispers things like, "Soldiers don't deserve to get help with their education through Sen. Webb's GI bill because they're not members of Blackwater or Halliburton subsidiaries." ... ... though McCain's physical cancer, the one that was eating at his skin, may have gone in remission, another cancer (the non-disease kind) has taken over, it is the cancer that causes the Senator to basically turn his back on everything he seems to have espoused (I don't know if he believed in these): he's turned his back on campaign finance reform (he's broken so many rules), he's turned his back on ethics reform (he's colluded with so many lobbyists), he's turned his back on his comrades in the military (by allowing water-boarding to continue, by disallowing down time, by fighting against Webb's GI bill). What is this new "cancer" that has afflicted McCain? Why, it's George W. Bush...McCain may have overcome that cancer that ate at his skin, but he's actually welcomed this new cancer that eats at his soul.

That's an astounding 98% increase over a comparable period in 2003. The jump was largely fueled by the DCCC's fundraising success, the FEC claims. Meanwhile, GOP committees raised $108 million and spent $82 million. That's a 22% decline from the comparable 2003 period. All three GOP committees -- the RNC, the NRCC, and the NRSC -- experienced a fundraising dip.
