ABC News - Jan. 18 (News Analysis) - Coded references to New Testament Bible passages about Jesus Christ are inscribed on high-powered rifle sights provided to the United States military by a Michigan company (Trijican), an ABC News investigation has found. At the end of the serial number on Trijicon's ACOG gun sight, you can read "JN8:12", a reference to the New Testament book of John, Chapter 8, Verse 12, which reads: "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." "This is probably the best example of violation of the separation of church and state in this country," said Michael Weinstein (of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation). "It's literally pushing fundamentalist Christianity at the point of a gun against the people that we're fighting. We're emboldening an enemy."

ABC News - By ABC News' Jan Crawford Greenburg, Ariane DeVogue, Dennis Powell, the Associated Press contributed to this report. - Jun. 29 (News Report) - In a blow to U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, the Court ruled today that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge. In a case that has gone to the Supreme Court, firefighters with the New Haven, Conn., Fire Department say that they were denied promotions because the city gave preferential treatment to blacks. (Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images/Dennis Powell)The justices split down ideological lines in a 5-4 ruling. The white firefighters filed suit after the city scrapped a promotions exam when it was determined that none of the black firefighter who took the test scored well enough to be promoted. The case took on an extra layer of significance when President Obama nominated Sotomayor to fill the upcoming vacancy on the Supreme Court.
