a hard-hitting opinion piece about women's status by the Toronto Star, one of the last independent papers in Canada.

nicely written article about the foreclosure crisis and how little ot the $700 billion in government money is going to help those homeowners who are facing foreclosure.
Libertarian ideolodgy has failed thank goodnes. Altough there may be some ashes worth sifting through and saving like self-suffiency. Can we succesfulluy transition into a sustaninable new world order: ala Schumaker's "Smal is beautiful" ? That's what I amd working for and reaching out community. We might be albe, some have already started.
a very interesting and insightful article about Obama. One quibble, discusses Obama's lead with African American voters and doesn't mention that African American voters are 10% of the American electorate.
A brilliant article about voter disenfrachisement, a must-read article for Americans and Canadian citizens who want to strengthen democracy for all citizens.
an important topic and one that Alternet follows regularly. Would be interesting to see whether the sexual assault of soldiers by fellow soldiers is also an issue in other countries.
a very positive piece about Ms Palin without any criticism. Independent media, on the other hand, have asked why she made the long flight home while leaking amniotic fluid, a risk to the baby or why she flew to Texas while eight months pregnant. Many doctors advise against airplane travel in the last months of pregnancy.
An important newsstory about the over zealous suppression of protesters and reporters at the Republican convention. Interesting to see the unfolding battle for the hearts and minds of viewers as newsstories are reported with the web and youtube allowing many more independent perspectives and opinions. It seems to me that mainstream media is being challenged on its reporting coverage and will need to be more balanced in order to retain the under 35 audience. Independent media and blogs are asking the more interesting questions. (The squashing of protestors also happened at the Democrat convention, see the excellent, brief Aug 31 editorial from the St. Petersburg Times ). http://www.tampabay.com/opinion/editorials/article790082.ece
another excellent column from Greenwald and a stinging indictment of MSM's cozy relationship with government and lack of independent reporting.
Good story presenting another view of India. I'm surprised to see the Guardian listed as MSM though, it has such an independent perspective.
interesting article about systemic judicial bias based on party affiliation (not a new story though).
an important story and one that emphasizes the need for investigative journalism and an independent media.
A well-written personal exploration of the culture of the South and Barack Obama's bid to become President. The article thoughtfully explores controversial issues, although it is weakened by an inconclusive finish. Also interesting to read the comments posted by Newsweek readers.
Superb investigative journalism; examines the relationship between government and the media and asks all the right questions about the use, and abuse, of source confidentiality.
interesting article but it fails to address the lack of federal government regulation which led to this economic meltdown.
Some interesting observations on American culture, written by a Canadian reporter vacationing in the U.S

well-written article about the constitutional challenge to Florida's ban on gay adoptive parents. One major fault, the story quotes "experts", who oppose gay parents, as credible, and fails to note the lack of scientific credibility.
