The references to Dowd are priceless. I signed up for NY Times Select so I could read her columns. Guess I'm getting my money's worth if I can read the ramblings of the "king maker" at the Times. Had no idea her trendy columns were so vital to the defeat of Gore in 2000. Silly me, I thought we were given Bush by the Supreme Court and the Republican Party's dirty tricks. Joe Conason did an excellent job of explaining why journalists love Al Gore now. He's no threat, he's declined to run again.

The pool used for this commentary consists of those who have read Mr. Harris' book, apparently, which slants the conclusions he writes since their interests may be more concerned with religion as a world force than most. His conclusion that US and Israeli foreign policy seeks to avoid intentionally murdering noncombatants ignores the recent Israeli war with Lebanon and the bombing of Christian neighborhoods in Lebanon by Israelis. The author's dismissal of efforts to embrace our Muslim brothers in order to check nuclear terrorism seems harsh and unfounded. Following that line of thinking the Christian right will one day threaten nuclear war which is goes against their religious dogma, as it goes against the Islamist dogma. ... More »

"The deaths occurred during a period when more than 100 Iraqis a day have been killed by the sectarian violence that some say is bordering on civil war." "Some" say? 100 people are killed every day? What is civil war? "the international community must now designate the leadership of this new international force, give it robust rules of engagement, and deploy it as quickly as possible to secure the peace." We can't send troops because they are over-extended around the world. They are stationed in 800 US military bases for what? disarming Hezbollah, compare that to disarming our militiamen at the Mexican border or to disarming Israel's political parties. Bush said that "nobody has ever suggested that the attacks of September ... More »
