I am a web developer and student of Philosophy. My training in Philosophy leans towards Epistemology and Philosophy of Science. I have joined NewsTrust as I have found that the news that it aggregates strives for qualities that are missing in most reporting. There is always something with interest and depth on NewsTrust to satisfy my desire for current news.

The two abortion procedures that are commonly used, medical and chemical, are very cheap, simply because of their relative ease to perform. I don't think there should be that much of a fight over this issue. The author disagrees and it seems as if she would be willing to take down all of the potential bills over the abortion issue.

In a study of the families of homosexuals, it is found that the kids turn out completely healthy. Unsurprisingly the children of gay and lesbian parents tend to favor the values of the gay and lesbian communities. Children growing up with homosexual parents have an eye towards equality and are not as affected by the gender roles of society.

This is a very good article about something that everyone suspects but does not have enough data on. The studies were provided in a lucid and unbiased manner.

This is a pretty good review of Michael Specter's new book Denialism. There's not much I would change about this review. The book sounds interesting.

This article is typical of writing about research. Like a lot of reporting about new research it leaves out important surrounding contextual information about the debate. Who are this researchers peers? What kind of questions did they have about his research? Are his methods sound? Also there is no discussion on how this new information should affect our actions. That we should be more careful about biased news is just left for the reader implicitly. According to the article, even the careful reader is affected by biased news. What would the researcher give as advice to news readers?

This is horrible journalism. The story is factual but leaves out key facts that would provide a different conclusion to the reader. As an example of this, on the second page it states that the winter of 2006/07 delivered the deepest snow cover to the Northern Hemisphere since 1966 and the coldest temperatures since 2001. The proper explanatory context for this would be the following. In theory global warming causes more water to evaporate into the atmosphere, so when the temperature does fall to below freezing there will be more accumulation of snow. Also, the current winter may be the coldest winter since 2001 but it was left out that 2007/2008's winter was the 10th or so hottest year on record.

This article challenges the assumption that Democrats are going to satisfy promises made during the previous election. It lays out the challenges for Democrats in a '09 Congress and administration. Succinctly, it brings the hopes of progressives back down to earth.

This is a great meta-analysis of the Iraq war and its contemporary coverage.
