I was waiting for the author to mention "it's all about oil" and "Haleberton" and every other left wing rant as evidence against possible military action against Iran. The author cited no sources for the opinions expressed and is so obviously far left as to make the article useless.

This is an important topic and Mr. Will does well to comment on it. Even if you disagree with the opinion of the GNEA, you should be concerned about who decides what speech is acceptable and which is not. Those of you who think the Oakland, CA city government was right to suppress this speech may not like it when some other government office decides that your speech is off limits on another issue.

THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING! Give me a break! Global warming is proved because part of our country is in a drought? We have forest fires every year. I happen to live in OKC and we have had way more rain than "normal" and the temps have been cooler than "normal". Does this disprove golbal warming? THis story was a bunch of garbage.

So 40 years after the publication of Silent Spring, the legacy of Rachel Carson is more troubling than her admirers will acknowledge. The book did point to problems that had not been adequately addressed, such as the effects of DDT on some wildlife. And given the state of the science at the time she wrote, one might even make the case that Carson's concerns about the effects of synthetic chemicals on human health were not completely unwarranted. Along with other researchers, she was simply ignorant of the facts. But after four decades in which tens of billions of dollars have been wasted chasing imaginary risks without measurably improving American health, her intellectual descendants don't have the same excuse.
