I am a former Veteran and former computer hardware techician. I have always been interested in politics but never moreso than now. This country is in deep trouble and Bushco is campaigning on death tax, gay marraige and all the other wedge issues he can find which are totally irrelevant to the future of this world as we know it.
I recently became a member of NewsTrust upon the recommendation of Rory O'Connor, MediaChannel.org. I am enjoying reading the other side. They have nothing except all the money.

This is a rather long article which says very little. It is simply congecture about which telephone companies gave what to NSA and what it means. If anything good comes out of the Bush administration snooping, it will be their only positive accomplishment. Sooner or later we will learn Choicepoint will have been payed a fortune to find an anti-war activist in Kansas City.

This article was posted originally on Tompaine on June 22, it then moved to Alternet and Truthout on the 30th. I chose Truthout for legibility. Comments may be found on the other two sites. This article is about Repulblican tactics used in Ohio during the 2004 election. It is a warning to Democrats and also to all Americans that free elections are in jeopardy. Also mentioned is the trouble facing the renewal of the Voting Rights Act. Very well written and documented.

This is an informative editorial specifying just what the Supreme Court decision on Gitmo means to the administration. The editorial suggests Bush, rather than badgering Congress into re-writing human rights, simply court-marshal the detainees suspected of crimes.

Once you get through the flak, this story is about what Democrats should do to bring the religious right into the fold. The author is right, nothing. There is no need to pander to the rightwing religious zeolets, the democratic party is build on morality. Chistians of good faith can see that. The spinning of religious fervor would only ring false. She thinks Obama may be misguided. Good works is where its at.

This article is generated by Howard Deans appearance before an unnamed religious conference in Washington DC. The comments Dean makes are unrelated and rambling. It is hard to say whether is is Dean or the reporter as we really don't know the forum. Deans memories of the 60's and the "age of enlightenment led by religious leaders" is different than mine. I remember well the sermons of Bishop Fulton J Sheen leaving and the fundraising of Jim and Tammie Baker, Oral Roberts, and Jerry Farwell taking over.

This a well written story giving the history of how employer-based heathcare become the norm and why it may be time to close it out. It uses quotes from two leaders who normally agree on nothing to show there may be a common ground leading towards health insurance reform. These was effectively backed up by excerpts from an essay by Jason Furman.

This is a well written, well documented account revealing the scope of the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal. It appears to have not reached the "Americans for Tax Reform", the group headed by conservative activist Grover Norquist who has been so active fighting for elemination of inheritance tax. Americans who like "who done it's" will have fun following this case which is beginning to encompass all of K street and half of Congress.

This is a story of opening a nuclear power plant in the US (New Mexico) owned by British and European interests using unknown technoligy producing waste products which we haven't a clue on disposal methods. It is well writen and factual as far as it goes. The reasons of why foreign interests have to do it in New Mexico to make a hugh profit are not addressed and are quite baffling.

This author has done intensive work on American voting rights and voting fraud. This story covers only one aspect of his ongoing research. It came out now because the Voting Rights Act is being stonewalled now. It is a well documented article on the depths to which The Republican National Committee will stoop.

This is possibly the worst story ever written. It says detaining a prisoner is like putting him in a holding cell while the harsh realilty is the prisoner is held and tortured forever. We did "detain" Japanese-Americans whether citizens or not. Not our finest hour, but we did not torture them and they were released when the war ended. The author is groping and appears ridiculous in his efforts.

This article start with the premise "the Times blows the classified program that seeks to trace al Qaeda-related bank transactions". It does have references from other same-thinking publications to support its view, and to its credit, actually displayed a recording from Lichtblau. The problem is the NYTimes did not "blow" anything. Bush is just data-mining for enemies of his administration under the quise of security, war on terror, etc. They are inept. An administration that could not bus 60,000 out of New Orleans and still have not fixed the homes or the levees, cannot be trusted with data.

The writer has no love for Repulican dirty tricks being used on soldiers sent off to fight Bush's War. This is one of many recent voter fraud articles involving challenges, deleting names, electronic voting machine malfunctions and tampering, gerrymandering, league of women voters roadblocks etc. It is well documented, and shows congression action against this "War on voting" is needed quickly.

I was hoping this story went a little more into Karl Rove. For anyone who's seen "Bush's Brain", the term "Turd Blossom" would be an apt discription, otherwise, he remains a shadowy figure. The news is good for any Repulican that relishes the rewards of "Swift Boat" campaigning tactics, as the gloves will now be off.

Just what are the rules of engagement in this conflict when the highest ranking members of the White House relish torture.

The report is from "The Council of Europe", "continent's most authoritative human rights body".The research was done by a Dick Marty, chairman of the Council's legal affairs and human rights committee. While much of what has been released appears to be conjecture, it still appears a damning condemnation of "The new morality".

The author does a credible job obtaining this information from the super-secretive Bush/Rumsfeld pentagon. It is a well written neutral account of a skirmish taking place between The White House/Pentagon on one side and The State Department on the other. Why these people are so in love with torture is a frightening question. Since the whole world thinks we torture everybody, God help any of our Soldiers who may be captured.

The author has a point in that the Democrats do not seem to have a voice, do not seem to be coming across with a message of their own. There are reasons for this not mentioned in the article. First and foremost is there lack or a Forum. They have no committee chairmanships, no subpena power and no leader. Second is logistics. A great speach with concrete plans for the future will be quickly forgotten because they have no conduit for implementation of any programs. Third is coverage. Rolling Stone and TruthOut are the best ways to follow where the Democrats are going.

This story is about war at its worse. War for a real cause is bad. This war sinful. The investigation will probably show the Americans guilty. It may or may not take into account how many tours these soldiers have been there, whether they are National Guard that should be rebuilding New Orleans, their mental state, whether PTSD has set in and drugs given as a "cure". For sure, no one above Sergeant will be tried. Bush will order sensitivity training.

The massachusetts plan was highlighted as an example, but this except left me wondering what he meant. "The Bay State's moves are certainly controversial--especially the steep mandates on uninsured individuals and the desperate efforts to protect the health insurance industry".
