This is exactly why we need alternative media and exactly why so many journalists were arrested; so they either could not cover events such as this or would be intimidated out of doing so. What is most disgusting about this is that this is a police force from a city with a so-called liberal Democratic mayor. The real test for Minnesota will be the response of the federal judiciary to the lawsuits which will inevitably follow and whether the Democrats of the city of St Paul will hold their mayor accountable for this outrage.
The story ignores Pawlenty's background which will make him a disastrous Vice Presidential selection. He twice vetoed bills that would have increased the gasoline tax in order to improve roads and bridges in Minnesota, directly contributing to the Highway 35 bridge collapse. His threatened veto stopped an attempt to balance the state budget by making the top 1% of the state's earners pay only the same rate of income tax as does the middle class. Far from appealing to working people, his administration has been of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich.
The article totally ignores the fact that, throughout the primary campaign, and indeed, throughout McCain's entire political career, he has been given a free ride by the mainstream media. The only problem with the critical press he has now received is that it is years late. The notion that the media has been more deferential to Obama than too McCain is a joke. While the media has only now begun to raise legitimate questions about McCain's dubious record and even more dubious claim to be an independent "maverick," Obama has been plagued with mountains of publicity about things like whether or not he wears a flag pin and what people who preach from the pulpit of his church have said, whether or not he was there to hear it. ... It is a story which should have been told long ago. It is a story at least as outrageous as Rudy Guiliani's treatment of his former wives. Yet while the mainstream media was all over Guiliani for announcing his divorce at a press conference, the story of McCain dumping his crippled wife for a trophy bride went largely untold. Congratulations to the author for giving us a needed perspective. It is hard to imagine McCain winning the evangelical vote if this story becomes well known.
This is absolutely good journalism and a story American main- stream media should have been telling months ago. The mistake McCain is obviously making is that in today's internet and You Tube world, it is no longer possible to project contrary images to different groups and get away with it. Obama's best hope is the knowledge that John McCain will, by November, give the American voting public multiple "macaca" moments.
It fairly discusses the candidates strength and weaknesses without overdoing the "balance" that prevents most mainstream media from getting at the truth. That said, it could have done more to expose the phoniness of McCain's "maverick" reputation.
