It isn't journalism - little on Media Matters is - so much as an opinion piece with lipstick. Nothing wrong with opinion, just label it as such...

This blog post is a classic case of Bush Derangement Syndrome. Technically this is an editorial, not a new story, and thus is held to different standards. But serves as an unintended window into P.M. Carpenter's soul. Let me ask three questions: If Bush is so stupid, why does he consistently get his way? If he's merely a puppet, why wouldn't his "puppetmaster" simply run for - and win - the Presidency? And if truth is so important to Carpenter, why isn't he going crazy at Hillary Clinton's candidacy?

The latest presidential spectacle will someday have historians in stitches. From the bowels of the Bush 43 Presidential Library, one will hear the raucous laughter of ... More »

This is more of an in-depth exposition rather than a news article. It's written solely from the author's point of view, and it's well worth considering.

Wow. This is a 3800-word screed containing not one ounce of accuracy or fairness within it. For example, his first bullet reads: "In Afghanistan the state was overthrown instead of apprehending the terrorist. Offers by the Taliban to surrender Osama bin Laden were ignored, and he remains at large to this day." This charming bit INVERTS THE FACT that the Taliban were SHELTERING al Qaeda so arresting the perps was literally impossible. Shortly after Sept. 11th, Victor Davis Hansen, the noted conservative historian, wrote a piece in National Review predicting that Leftists would be driven insane by the attack and subsequent events. The 9/11 Truth Movement, and almost everything else that Leftists caterwaul bear him out. I suppose I ... More »

This is leftwing media bias in action. Giving a Democratic presidential candidate the last four paragraphs while giving one Republican ONE sentence. They also didn't challenge the Times' disgusting hair-splitting: ' "We do not accept opinion advertisements that are attacks of a personal nature." ... The full-page ad did not address Petraeus' personal life.' Apologize, "Mr." Hoyt. NOTHING gets more personal than accusing a public servant of treason. Also note CNN's video link: "Video Watch how the Times gives ammunition to the GOP". Leftes' wonder why Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, the NY Post, Rush Limbaugh, and other journalists are doing so well. Here's the secret: they cater to a small niche (~60% or so) that still ... This is a column, not a news story. Deb Price actually wrote a decent column which totally neglected th Federalism / Big Brother implications of Rep. Sanchez's bills. Q: Do educators really need another unfunded mandate? And what about the bullies' perspective? Has ANY research ever asked that question? Wouldn't letting this happen, if it happens, from the bottom-up be better? P.S.: I was bullied as a kid, too.

This story's central problem is that Andrew tried to be evenhanded, as opposed to fair. Terrorists captured on the battlefield, who fling their feces and urine at American guards, do not deserve anything like "balance". Whistling during prayers? Withholding medicine? Forcing suicidal prisoners to eat? Where they're from, prisoners are beaten, whipped, electrocuted, sliced and mutilated a hundred different ways. And remember: Al Qaeda specifically taught them, and (guilt-ridden?) Western newsmen have rewarded them for lying about their conditions, while forgetting to note how good those conditions really are. They have access to the highest-quality health care of their lives. They have halal meals (!), which help them put on ... More »

It's actually a pretty good story, undone by Joseph Cirincione, the final named source. Poor Joseph's understanding is ~150 degrees away from reality. Joseph, you don't play nice when dealing with bad people, and Iran's klepto-theocracy is one of Earth's five worst.

This is an opinion(ated) hit piece purporting to be a news piece. The truth is that Truman and the military didn't want to risk one million American lives, plus many millions of Japanese, both civilian and military. Japanese historians recently confirmed that their leadership was looking for a excuse to stop the war. And that Hirohito had to survive a coup attempt to broadcast his radio address. WW2 was the bloodiest war ever, and the belief that whacking an isolated would impress the warlords is irritatingly naive. Q: Does Mr. Scheer believe that Hitler or Stalin would've had any qualms about using a nuke on London?

Pretty good, by the NYT's standards. (Hint: check the MilBloggers, Blackfive in particular.) They pointed out, for example, that a Bradley driver is high on the left side, unable to see the right tracks (running over the dog wasn't possible). I drove deuce-and-a-half's for the M.I. unit I was stationed with, and let me tell you, hijinks are the LAST thing you're apt to pull. Remember, you have 6-12 troops (depending on vehicle) in the back who're depending on you to NOT break their bones.

It shows a classic case of overhyped incidents, cynically exploited by local kleptocrats, aided by a well-meaning, credulous scribe.

With tongue firmly-in-cheek, Andy Borowitz tries to carve out some space in the "Not Necessarily The News" market. Not bad; I hope he doesn't succumb to the peer pressure to not parody Lefties...
